The wife and I make loads of home made soups. Mine are usually meat based i.e Oxtail, kidney or Mulligatawny.Memsahib uses a load of Tomatoes in hers. We can buy a full tray for about £2.99 from our Turkish Food Market.
We have never bought or used a Soup maker. Just our big cauldron and maybe the electric stick blender.

I’ve only just revisited this read, apologies for the delayed response. And thank you all for your suggestions, I will definitely be trying some of them.
I have always used a pan and stick blender to great effect but decided to buy a soup machine as those who have one really rate them, and so far I haven’t been disappointed.
I chop up a courgette, red pepper, onion, garlic and leek, and add a stock cube. This makes really nice soup without oil or cream or anything that people can be intolerant to. It also works well if the veg is a little old!
You asked for recipes, Vagus, and this has turned into a soup maker versus pan on the hob debate. Try this one.

Method:
Pre-heat the oven to 200oC / Gas Mark 6.
1 Place the tomatoes skin side up into a roasting tin with the red
onion and garlic. Drizzle over the olive oil, balsamic vinegar and
season with salt and milled pepper. Roast for 20 minutes until
softened and slightly charred.
2 Carefully place the roasted vegetables into the Soup Maker pour in the chicken stock, add the tomato puree, brown sugar, fresh basil.
3 Select the smooth setting. Once the soup is ready, season to tasteand serve.
Ingredients:
• 8 very ripe tomatoes cut in half
• 2 red onions cut into wedges
• 4 garlic cloves
• 1tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
• Salt and ground black pepper
• 750ml chicken stock, made
from stock cubes
• 2 tsp tomato puree
• 1 tsp brown sugar
• 10g fresh basil

Thank you Scarlett and Tilly2.
Do you think it totally necessary to roast those ingredients first? I wonder if it makes a great difference to the taste.
Roasting them brings out their natural sweetness.
