This is one of my favourite soups, I make 6 litres at a time in my slow cooker by doubling up the quantities

Gosh, hc, that’s just the sort of thing we love, thank you so much, I’m sure we’ll give that a go. I do love a bit of cream or yogurt in soup. Thank you my dear.
One of my favourite combos - I use white Stilton and do serve it smooth.

I bought one last winter and have to confess it hasn't been out of the box yet.I am going to give it a try now so will try the recipies on this thread :)
Can they do anything that a sauspan can't do? (genuine question)
saucepan
Yes 237 have meal ready when you get home after a day out and cook meat that would otherwise need a lot of looking after.
I'd have to say no, 237 - a saucepan and a hand blender is all you need for soup.

Hc's recipe will do fine in a slow cooker and the Roasted red pepper and tomato one I do need a bit
more than heat and blitz.
The reason that I wondered about soups is because when I make them, I sweat the vegetables in the pan with the butter or oil before I do anything else. I think that is an essential part of the soup making process.
Yes 237 but you can do that the night before and put in slow cooker.
TonyV - yes I like the slow cooker but I`m just wondering if a soup maker is worthwhile.
This is about electric soup makers.....not slow cookers.
Soup makers appeal to those who buy a "rice cooker"....people who like to make a simple job more difficult.
^ Everyone in Hong Kong has a rice cooker. They might not be of much use to you but they are to others.
237, Honkers does rice, we (I) do tatties, then a quick rinse and on to soup.
Same pot, different experience. :-)
^maybe....if you eat rice every day.
^ yes HK people do eat rice every day.
Douglas :)
my favourite soup recipe has only 7 ingredients
sweet potato or squash or a mixture of both peeled and chunked
onion chopped
milk
water
vegetable stock cube or use home made stock instead of the water
a little butter or oil
a lime

You sweat the veg in the butter or oil, don't brown them, throw in the stock cube and water and simmer till tender, blitz, thin with the milk, season to taste, stir really well then just before serving stir in lime juice to taste. To posh it up once its in the bowls, add a swirl of yoghurt or pumpkin oil and a sprinkle of shreds of lime zest.
Love mine, a batch of soup in 21 mins, chunky or smooth
Like anything it all depends on whether it suits, like many I prefer to saute or roast ingredients first for some recipes.

Added to which, I am short on space.
