In fact hasn't the time now come to forget what happened so far back in history, as this sort of thing only alienates once race against another?

/The people in Devon and Cornwall in the early 1600s lived in constant fear of the marauding pirates.//

I'm aware of the history, Andres. My irony didn't translate too well, did it?

Check my other posts.

There are, of course, the Barbary wars - initiated by Jefferson without the approval of Congress "shores of Tripoli" etc? - but, hey, all history under the bridge.
The slave trade was wrong. That’s a given but there is no one alive today (I’m not talking modern day slavery as that is its own issue) that was a slave owner or a slave.

Not everyone had slaves. In fact very few people owned slaves so who is going to pay and who is going to receive reparations?

If you live your life by sectionality you will only ever be known for your section and not yourself. If you live your life with a chip on your shoulder it will get heavier and heavier over time and will weigh you down.

History should never be forgotten but there comes a time when you can’t use it as an excuse for anything and everything that is wrong with your life and how you perceive the world. You will see slight, racism and bad intentions when there simply isn’t any.
^^ True, & in whose pocket will the £24 million end?

Working in the sunny sugar cane and cotton fields, must have been easy, compared to what the slaves of the Romans, Nazis and Japanese had to endure.
aog, As crass comments go that takes some beating.
^^ Not crass, but I would remove the Romans, their slaves were properly fed, had every third day off & the chance to become freemen, (which many did).
Given the choice between Auschwitz & a sugar plantation, I'd go for the latter every time.
Khandro, two wrongs don’t make a right and comparing slavery to death camps is crass. It’s an insult to all - slaves and prisoners alike.
