Buying a pub

Assuming that I won the lottery, how would I go about buying a pub, and then paying a manager a salary to run it?

I know that pub companies require "ingoing" + working capital, but also demand experience. Could I then find an experienced manager, pay them a salary + bonus, and keep any remaining profit for myself, or is it far more difficult than that.

I am of course aware that the pub trade has suffered in recent years and good, profitable pubs are very rarely up for sale, so could I be quite callous and offer to "buy out" the existing management?

You're getting confused between buying and leasing.
If you want to buy a pub outright, just go to whoever owns it - usually the brewery and make them an offer.
Most brewery owned pubs are tenanted, where the landlord and/or lanlady run the pub and pay rent to the brewery, but don't actually own the place. This is what you'd need to convince the brewery that you could run the business for.
Yes as bob says, if you won the Lottery just buy it and run it yourself. You don't have to put up with all the horsesh1t the brewers will land you with.

For what it's worth though I'd also put myself on a proper, probably brewery run course on running a battle cruiser, they charge but it'll stop it going t1ts up in the first 5 minutes.
Loosehead - can`t you EVER read a question, digest it, and then give an answer? Once again you give your own STUPID comments which are worthless. The question is NOT about running a pub - just owning one. I should think that is fairly simple, just form your own company and go out and buy a pub - the manager will be running it but if the owner has to be a suitable person then that is another matter. I really do not know why you think you are so clever when all I read in your questions and answers are a load of absolute ********. You do have a high opinion of yourself and your knowledge - for Christs sake stand back and look at yourself and reflect on incredible stupidity of your answers. You just give the question a quick scan and then give some ridiculous answer according to what YOU thought they should be asking!. Are you so obsessed with yourself that you cannot credit someone asking a sensible question that deserves a sensible answer.
Berylium, err I think I did that, read my first sentence you retard.

Why would he need to form a company to buy a pub, what's that git to do with anything

Don't know what I've done to you sunshine but you have now sowed the wind. You are like the gutless school bully, you are trying to pick on me, god only knows why, but I bully the bullies.

Hi Andy, as I don't own a pub, I cannot advise you on anything specific about the running of it. But I did buy my own sandwich business and going on my own experience, (and from what I can gather from your stated intention, apologies if I am wrong) would not advise anyone to simply stick a manager in and let them get on with it, at least not without attempting to learn anything yourself about it, that would be the fastest way to bankrupt yourself! When I first opened the sandwich bar, I worked in it from morning to night and learnt everything about the trade, then I started to slowly hand over responsibility to other people who I trusted. The problem I found with hiring others with previous experience was that their experience was not always as good as I was hoping for, so I would advise trying to promote trusted staff from within.
Loosehead I cannot see who you are responding to in your last response! But I presume they have been pretty insulting in what they have said! But (and I may get this wrong as I don't know what context it has been said in) you normally form a company before buying a any business and this is what Andy would have to do.
That IS NOT Berry!
