Finn's Law ...
I have much admiration for police dogs and how they can do things that us, mere, humans are unable to.
Finn was badly wounded by a young thug with a knife and as a result, a petition was set up to request/demand that service animals be given higher status. They had previously only been seen, legally, as a piece of equipment.

Tell me that's not you in the photo. He was a good looking dog, he seems smaller than I would have expected but maybe your dad was a big lad.
Thanks for posting them again - I love German Shepherds. My first dog was a German Shepherd crossed with a Bullmastiff, he got the best bits of both breeds. A big soft lump but cunning and sneaky.
If I ever get myself a flat/house with a garden I am going to get a dog.

As I said earlier some dogs have to be trained to be aggressive for anti terrorist operations where it is not desirable to use lethal force. I called them 'hard dogs' as they used to be named but now have a different designation. Same job.
My Father was attached to Four Five Royal Marine Commando whilst on anti-terrorist duties during the violent EOKA terrorist campaign.
This was not patrolling the streets of London. The dog would have to sniff out arms caches in remote caves in the Troodos mountains which may also contain armed terrorists. The dog was trained to go in seriously hard. On return after a 6month tour Joe had to be placed in quarantine for 6 months where my father visited him and retrained him to return to normal peace time police duties.

You are welcome. I have thousands of photos of Joe. Some as a demonstration dog,during refresher training. patrolling London and loads with 45 R.M.Commando. They dubbed him the 'marines dog' and were reluctant to loan him and my dad to other military units at the time. My father actually had the manuscript of a book about his life as a Police dog handler and his involvment with dogs from a small boy. His father, a part time poacher, taught my father his dog training schools. Many were later adopted by the Police Dog Training School in Keston Kent. I still have the manuscript but we never got the book published. It was written by a BBC TV director called Richard Afton. My father trained his dog and got the manuscript as a thank you

Unless the training methods in the manuscript are 'dated' it may be a good idea to investigate having it published.
40ish years back I wanted to join the Police (poor health got in the way and I joined the civil service) and in recent years I have developed a soft spot for Police Dogs. It is amazing to watch them be vicious and snarly one minute and a big goofy puppy the next.

Absolutely wonderful that this law was passed, well done Finn. retro - those pictures are fabulous, I love them. As for police dogs, the only thing I object to is the very, very small space at the back of a police vehicle that they have to spend so much time in when out on duty. I think they should have better accommodation than this as it is so cramped.
