Jeremy Corbyn has appointed Diane Abbot to Labour’s National Executive Committee but two senior members of the Shadow Cabinet told PoliticsHome they were not told of the decision.

//The behind-closed-doors move infuriated backbenchers. One Labour source told the Politcs Home website: “This exposes the sham of Labour party democracy.
“If Jeremy cannot consult the Shadow Cabinet about using their constitutional powers, what chance have the membership got in being listened to on Brexit?”

According to Labour’s rule book the NEC must include “three frontbench Members of Parliament, at least one of whom must be a woman, nominated by the Cabinet (or Shadow Cabinet in opposition)”//

And now of course he has promoted Diane ‘The Abacus’ Abbott without discussing it with his shadow cabinet.
"but his party is the Party of Opposition, so by default, he does have considerable influence on the government. "

Imagine governing a country, not based on what you think is right and proper, but what the opposition would or wouldn't do...
"Corbyn makes his own rules"

. . . and Teresa May doesn't ? ? ?

The latter runs the country, so in her case it is significant.
Canary, what rules has May made?
The speaker makes his own rules up as he goes along.
Have to agree with both ludwig and youngmafbog. Rubbish the lot of them.
//at least one of whom must be a woman//

maybe JC self-identifies as female? he's got a nice beard for it....
ymf @ 12.06: as 200+ MPs are female you are incorrect and your descriptive term leaves a lot to be desired on a public forum.
Choux, what do you see is wrong in the post at 12.06.No mention of ladies?
danny, there was a term used which related to male-only MPs.
Choux , have you quoted the correct post. There is no mention of male MP's there.
I stand corrected thank you danny. I should have typed "@ 12:56".
:-)
No matter how inept Labour appear to be with the likes of Corbyn and Abbot in their ranks, the last election still needed support from the DUP for the Tories to win. A scary thought that a lot of people think that the current Labour party can successfully govern the country.
there's suggestion in PEye that the Labour Party couldn't really mount an effective election - they need to target 64 marginals and 20 under threat, apparently people are leaving in droves, subbies are plummeting and the max that they can fund is 20. Effective leadership? Me thinks not. JC can't even handle this issue of Anti-Semitism which just requires the balls to stand up and say "Anymore and you are out - and I don't care who you are."

DTC, //JC can't even handle this issue of Anti-Semitism //

Do you think he wants to?
