Received a Christmas card today from someone I’m not in contact with - why do they bother? Is it to make them feel good or like they’ve somehow done their bit?
I'm guilty of sending cards to people on my list which is probably way out of date. I did cross some off last year, and I'll cull it some more this time. Then see if I receive from those people before I rush a card back!
Nooo I don't send now don't want any either. Waste of money for a start and as it's my bday near Xmas I prefer the stash of cards I receive for that. Always keep bday cards up a week and love them. Xmas cards to me aren't sent with sentiment, often by duty or 'that's the list I stick to'. I donate to charity rather then send cards and line rotten mail's pockets with dosh. Sad old gittess ain't i?
There are a couple of people I have no contact with other than to send a Xmas card every year. They both, independently helped me through a very difficult time many years ago and I am still grateful to this day and they know that. I always get one back from each of them, so far. It's a way of letting each other know we are still alive I suppose. I dread the day I don't get one in return.
I think the 8th of December is way too early to be sending or receiving cards, whoever they are from. Makes it seem like it's a chore and being done just to 'get it out of the way' and tick it off some list. Not what Christmas is about, to me.
I've done all my cards. Posted 18 yesterday. Got a big pile for hand delivery. Done about 40 for our U3A Christmas lunch club that I organise and done the committee cards too.
