sorry I couldn't meet you yesterday. Don't know if you saw my reply on other thread. Hope you enjoyed the day back in stoke for the day ;-)

Yes Thank You Nails. Saw your post and had a good day. Took my son and met a brother, and we were all a little humbled to read the accounts and see the lists. The mural is not, unfortunately displayed in its entirety, due to restoration work being carried out on it, but their is a full size replica along one wall. Particularly riveting was to see copies of the obituaries from the "Potters Gazette" listing relatives that bore both my son's and my name. The weather was kind and we had a bit of lunch and a pint and exchanged a bit of banter. Glad to be home when we got back. The museum itself is a great place and we had a wander around there after viewing the temporary exhibition. Trust me though. There was a pc set up with no attendant, that contained archive stuff of soldiers from the Staffs regiments, and after checking that it was ok to use it, I looked up family members. I found myself with a queue of people shouting out names of theirs.

so glad that you enjoyed a bit of time back in Smoke-on-Stench... ;-)
Must admit that as a native, I really don't keep up with whats going on in my own city (or museum for that matter).
Glad that you had a good day anyway m8. (good weather, lunch and a good pint is never a bad thing...)

I couldn't help but notice that hundreds of buildings have been knocked down and was amazed to be able to see Mow Cop from the top of Smallthorne bank. Jeez when I was there you could hardly see a mile.

S.O.T Council seem to have a thing about knocking things down Togo at the moment. :-(
I was up at Mow Cop a couple of weeks ago, lovely place!!
Got some happy memories of the place...usually involving a girl ;-)

We used to go up there as kids, on our bikes,(bit like yourself) and actually climb up the old castle walls. Elfin safety would have palpitations these days. The ride back down would have made their hair stand on end as well. Most of us had no brakes.

There was one other thing that struck Nails. When we were in the pottery museum there was a class of schoolchildren, probably 8 or 9 year olds. There were 32 children in the party viewing the exhibitions, and then all sat after an hour or so to do what looked like some "design" work with paints and various materials. There was one white girl in the class. I did wonder what the children thought as they viewed the photographs of the old potters and pot bank workers, as they were all white.

I know what you say Nails. Merely a social comment. In fact nothing was said yesterday or indeed today. Just the knowing looks exchanged as we ourselves were looking at the exhibits. 75% of the class were also male.
