Rip Montserrat Caballe

Just been reported that the opera singer has died. Must admit i'd never heard of her until she teamed up with the late, great Freddie Mercury to produce the haunting Barcelona. Her voice complimented Freddie's beautifully and there is no doubt in my mind that the pair would have done another album had that been possible.
Newsreader on Radio 2 just made a massive gaffe. He said she teamed up with Freddy to sing at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Freddie died in 1991. Doh.

Like you Ken, I had never heard of her........but Mrs sqad took me to task, was disgusted and told me that M.Caballa had a permanent suite in the Ritz Hotel Barcelona (Mrs sqad knows these things.)

Awww bless. Montserrat is named after a geological feature in Spain where there’s a Monastry and a cable car which goes to the top of some strange volcanic hills. Quite spectacular they are. It’s quite common for girls to be named after the area, apparently. Bet the journo didn’t know that either!

Freddie adored and admired her for many years before they finally met in Barcelona... hence the song.

Freddie had a wonderful voice, I'm with ken here, don't dare diss our Freddie. As an opera fan I knew of Montserrat before her fantastic duo with him. She couldn't have picked a better partner if she'd tried.
It still send shivers down my spine today and that is not something that happens every day. R.I.P. Freddie and Montserrat.

Freddie may not have been operatically trained but he had the most amazing capabilities in his voice. He could have gone on to great achievements. I love this song they are so good togeher.
And as a great opera singer with recognision in her field , Montserrat was delighted to sing with Freddie and would have done more had they had the chance. RIP
