Can anybody tell me if the school year has ever been January to December. My sister who was born April 1944 and went to school in Nottingham says that when she was at school it was like this. Not September to July as it is now.
There was nothing in the Education Act 1944 (which controlled state education when your sister was at school) to say how the school year should be arranged. Have sorted it. I put "what age did children go to secondary school in 1955 on google and up came "start of the school year (archive)". Lots of comments from 2010 confirming this.
Obviously when it was altered it must have been bit of a mix up that year with some having to stay a few months longer to compensate but that's like any change. It happens
