Ok this is the hopeless G4S but really the public sector is no better.

Gaol/Jail is for holding short term, prison is where you go long term to serve your sentence.

Might be getting mixed up with American terms there O-G
Jail and prison are synonymous in the UK. Gaol is old English for the same.
But I looked it up especially !
I've just looked up gaol in Chambers Dictionary and it means a prison.

Why don’t they cover said prisons with wire mesh to stop the drone deliveries and the throwing across the wall of contraband and things?

Costly I know but it would surely. E effective.
Because they outsourced it. TBF private firm or gov body it would be the same.

A curtain amount of contraband is ‘allowed’ to keep the prison population under control. It is the control that has broken down.

Gaol/jail prison are synonymous terms with no difference in meaning. Slammer is a US term as is Can. Other British terms include HM Guesthouse.
Why can’t we run a nick? In a word Liberalism.
