Is there someone out there who can help me? I need some tartaric acid but am unable to find any in my local area. Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase some?

Not sure if this is the same as Cream of Tartar? - you can buy it in all supermarkets.

Otherwise I suggest asking in your local pharmacy

Local home brew supplies shop will have it or even a chemist may.

You can get it online - just google, but you should get it near you ok.

Thanks, been to every chemist and supermarket in the area and have drawn a blank. Will try the home brew shop and see if they sell it. Cream of tartar is when tartaric acid is mixed with potassium hydroxide, transforming it into a salt. No I don't understand that either!

HI lyall - read this then and impress the neighbours about you new found knowledge of cream of tartar..: http://www.ochef.com/933.htm

thanks nickmo, read it and wept! couldn't say i understood a word of it, but it's feels good knowing where things come from. Unfortunatly not located any tartaric acid yet, the nearest home brew shop is nearly 50 miles away and i have no way of getting ther. Snail mailed them and am awiting a reply. Thanks for all you help.
You can get tartaric acid from a home brew shop. It is used when making beer or wine. Wilkinsons do a range of beer and wine making accessories and you might just get it there.
