I live in a high rise.
A few days ago I had a plastic policeman (a PCSO) knock on my door and ask me if Ive had any problems with homeless people sleeping on the stairwells of my flats. I told him ...honestly... that Ive had no problems with homeless people sleeping on the stairwells.
There have been people occasionally sleeping on the stairwells, particularly in winter, but they have never bothered me. This jerk then went on to ask me to report anyone who was sleeping rough (and trying to take cover from the elements) to the authorities.
Why would I report anyone trying to stay safe/clean/secure/ etc?
Sometimes I just really HATE uniforms and what they represent.

you moaned at me the other day for judging u without knowing u, yet u do exactly the same.
oh well, we are all human!
I think Nailit is talking generally about uniforms. From many of his various posts I have the slight suspicion that the police force and its appendages are not exactly his favourite people.

Not when they beat me up, perjure themselves in a crown court etc then no Im not.
Just when a few homeless folk are trying to survive?? Seriously?
I despair at the lengths people will go to.

Should have read....
Who is going to what lengths?
I suspect those of us who have attempted to explain why the police may do what they do.
One last time...

He was doing what he was told to do.
I have found keeping to society's rules means I have never had problems with those that enforce them. I should think that is the same for most people. However I know a few who have and been and currently are in the police and in any group of people there are some who are decent, and others who can be a little less than we would expect of them.

If you move in the circles where you come into their area of responsibility you should expect to see the side that does their job.
Plastic policeman? Never heard that before. In fairness he is in employment and may well have concern's for homeless people .
Why the Dickens don’t the poor and homeless just die and decrease the surplus population?
Ridiculous comment.
I believe that PCSOs are the successors to the Special Constabulary, who were unpaid volunteers. I am not sure of the difference in terms of remit.
For the less erudite on here, I was quoting Ebenezer Scrooge, from Dickens, A Christmas Carol.
PCSOs do get a living wage, but I don't know how much exactly.
Seemingly they start at £16k p a.
Poor man, just doing his job and called a 'plastic policeman' for it. Any PCSO's I've met have always been polite and friendly. And I think the comment about telling him to go fornicate himself is disgusting.
// that Ive had no problems with homeless people sleeping on the stairwells. //

one of the other ABers was asked this and replied
"naaah I just kick em darn de last few steps officer - you mean I have to stop doin' vat even tho I pay me taxes?"

anonymised to protect the guilty - as clearly kicking them darn the apples and pears whilst day asleep is a crime .....
