Had my monthly check in with my diabetes nurse re - getting Queenie ready for motherhood.

I’m making progress between say 11am and 7pm and then it all goes wrong. So we decided tea ratio goes up and I try to be a little more active than normal in the evening.

So I did that this evening and I dropped like a stone. Think I may have done a little too much too soon don’t you think?

All in all Nurse is impressed that I’m showing signs of making progress somewhere. Just need a few tweaks :)

I am not an expert, but well done on your improvement.

I wish you well in getting ready for motherhood. xx
Are you type 2 or type 1 Queenie?
Question Author
Thank you Marval...still a long way to go though. But I will get there xx

Kvalidir I’m Type 1.
best of luck Queenie...softly softly..xx
Question Author
Thank you Minty. Tomorrow I’m not going to be active I’ll do my dose accordingly and leave it at that.
Do you carb count Queenie? I do and usually I can keep a pretty reasonable handle on it that way, if so it's just a matter of knowing your absorbtion rate and being pretty meticulous about how many grams of carbs you have accordingly. that all goes awry if I'm ill however it pleases itself then. Also do you take your long acting insulin in the morning or the evening?
Question Author
I do Carb Count yes. I’m usually really good. I’ve been showing signs of resistance but I tried Metformin hypoed to the point I had to phone out of hours and refused to take it again, but I know I can do this for now.
I know the slightest infection and they are off and there is no stopping them.
I take my long acting before bed.
I had no idea you were a diabetic Kvalidir.
I can now keep mine bang on until I come down with a cough or a bug and then it swings wildly off the scale. Also found out alcohol doesn't suit me with my sugar levels either. I'm on Lantus which I take in the evening and novorapid (fast acting) for everything else. I don't take metformin at all, although I do take Levothhyroxine for my thyroid condition. do you take a fast acting insulin or is your metformin to use for that, I have no experience of that so don't know what to say about it tbh.
Question Author
I just need a cat scratch or an ingrown toenail and I’m stuffed. But glad you are doing so well!
I don’t drink so I can’t say how alcohol affects me.
The Metformin is meant to aid the way my insulin works but I don’t think I need it regardless of what my results show or say. When I can’t get my sugars up after 1 tablet and I’m told if I drop to call an ambulance - I’m not taking it.
I’m on Tresiba and Fiasp (Novorapid on speed) it’s really good. Me and Lantus fell out - otherwise I’d still be on it.
How long have you been a Diabetic?
I see, it's very hard once your body rebels with an infection etc. I've been diabetic since I was 14 and haven't had that much trouble, touch wood, had far more trouble with my thyroid making me exhausted all the time. I can sleep 18 hours a day if people let me. Are you pregnant at the moment or thinking of becoming pregnant?
Question Author
Aww I’m really sorry to hear about your Thyroid trouble. I believe the two (diabetes and thyroid problems) often go hand in hand.
I’ve been diabetic since I was 2.5 and on Saturday just gone I have done 27 years in the trenches. I’ve not had any complications other than Retinopathy caused by my Diabulimia problem in my teenage years.
I’m not pregnant at present, but I would like to consider it in the next year or two. I just have a lot of fears and things I need to get past.
Its such a full time job for you two young girls to keep yourselves healthy, we underestimate just how committed you have to be27/7. Be well ladies :-)
I can understand that, I always swore I would never have children but that's possibly changed now. I do know plenty of people who have successfully been pregnant with diabetes, and I think your ante-natal management is pretty much second to none if you're a type 1 these days, they keep a very good eyes on you I'm told. Exciting, and i'm sure you'll get there with your control, it's just such a lot of hard work making sure we get everything right all the time isn't it? xx
Thank you Anne, I am trying at the moment xx
Question Author
It is Anne, it’s often stated that we are our own Life Support, Mathematician, Dietician, Chef, and various other thing. It’s a permanent full time job. But we do alright.

I’ve always wanted Children, I just didn’t know how difficult it was going to be. But my team is great the antenatal care I have available as you said Kvali, is brilliant. I know I’m in good hands. I think my downfall is trust, I trust others but I don’t trust me, and I need to fix that! But I’ve good people around me and I’m certain I’ll make headway. I know I have a pitfall too and I’ve had words with the person responsible and we’ve agreed to do this together so crossing everything.

If you ever want to chat further away from Ab just let me know. I like having a diabetic friend to talk to when times get tough.

Best get to bed or I won’t be up for work in the morning.

NightyNight xx
I think you're doing really well QOM, and do well believe you'll be a great Mother. One of my SIL's has really bad Diabetes (amongst other problems) My Bro had to quit work to be a carer for her and she's had two Beautiful daughters (My Nieces Obviously) and they now know how to take care of her if she needs help.. she's had great recovery and Bro and herself have being able to return to work. I wish you all the best but don't push yourself is the only advice I have. Xx
Night Queenie, I'm sure you're going to absolutely get this down xx
