One of the things about cartoons, whether for adults or children, is that all the characters have to have clear and easily identifiable traits so I really can't get behind all this silly nonsense about The Simpsons character Apu.

The only people that seem to care are people willing to be offended. I get really tired of it when in reality it means very little other than to identify one character from another.

More over sensitivity. It's a comedy cartoon, of course the character is a stereotype. The cop eats doughnuts too ! Way of the world today, it seems.
pc gone too far imo.

Whatever next? It's a flipping comedy cartoon show !!
Comedy or what passes for it has long relied on stock characters/stereotypes - it's easy to get disgruntled if you are constantly searching for it as some appear to do.
These 'sensitive' people are killing comedy!
Sick of this nonsense. All the characters are stereotypes of one sort or another! 'Characters' usually are!
Oh deary, oh deary me.

Spoken with hands placed together in front of one's face in a prayer like way.
who's next?

Naveed from Still Game ?

What about the comedy show 'The Kumars at No.42' (I think that was the title?)
when did anyone last laugh at anything his character did?
The Simpsons is brilliant and takes the ssip out of all types of people. Maybe I should complain about the CCL (Crazy Cat Lady) :-)
Nope, you don't laugh at Apu... you laugh at the thick, fat, hapless one... Homer is it?
Is the simpsons still going - i thought i read somewhile back that the writers had run out of ideas ?
It trundles on.
What next? No Englishman, Irishman, Scottish-man, jokes?
This is idiotic.

Removing the only asian character from the show is not helping diversity, just the opposite.

In fictional writing, every character portrayal is an exaggeration. To pick out Apu as the only stereotype is rather missing the comedy.
I watched The Problem With Apu a few weeks ago, and it’s was interesting to hear from American Asian actors on the subject of stereotyping.

The film is quite funny actually - I’d not realised that India actors were so frequently asked by casting agents to put on ‘that’ voice, and to do the whole wobbly head thing.
By the way - hilariously loaded question.

“Is this PC too far or just cartoon fun?”

Errr...what?

we have a saying up here when some one tries to stereotype us

boomer wrong one lol

I think that the Scottish guy is a pretty good representation of a Scot.

:-)
Scream loudly until the Asian character is ditched and then scream loudly again because Asian people aren’t represented. Racist innit.
