I'm thinking of learning to play the ukelele. Does any ABers play it and did you find it easy to pick up?

my five year old does and it was relatively easy for her. You can actually teach yourself from the internet
They are not too heavy, Patsy!
Ukuleles are replacing recorders in many primary schools because they're so easy to learn to play:

That's given me confidence bednobs! Aww, I hope she keeps it up. I would teach myself from internet. I have an acoustic guitar which I can strum quite a few chords!

Thanks Buenchico for link. I'm definitely going to get one now!
I write for Acoustic Magazine, and I can confirm Chris's link - loads of schools are replacing recorders with ukuleles because they are more popular, and children prefer learning them.

I attend the Acoustic Festival Of Great Britain every year, and they have a Ukulele Workshop, and at the end of the third day, the whole class play a tune together on stage. Everyone gets to have a go, even if they have only mastered one chord - it's a great sense of fun and community, so I'd say give it a go.

That sounds great Andy. Can't wait to learn. Got to get ukelele first!
Fingering for Chords for the uke is different to the ones for a guitar.
By the way George Fromby played a banjolele not a ukulele
Typo..... Formby

Is it GCEA strings?
I play the uke and I would advice you to join a group. I'm in two and we played to the public after 2mths.
I play a concert uke as the spaces between the frets are larger than the soprano, an advantage when you've got fat fingers.

I've got quite small hands Melv. Which one would you advise?
The soprano, patsy.

Thanks Melv. How much can I expect to pay? ( Just a basic one)
You should be able to pick one up for about £30-00. Have a look online.
George Formby played the Ukulele,Banjolele and Banjo all equally well.

You'll have fun Patsy - enjoy.
