How long do you leave your teabag in boiling water for when making a single cuppa in a mug or teacup ?

I only drink coffee but a friend of mine dips two teabags in and out of a teapot quicker than I can write it. She fills two cups at a time saying by the time she has drunk the first one the tea in the pot will be too strong. It seems a waste of money to me, she's only drinking coloured water.
I mostly drink herbal or fruit teas, and leave the bag in. If i have tradition tea, its 2-3 minutes. Milk, no sugar.
I don't drink many hot drinks at home but if the mood takes me I will make tea using instant tea with milk added. I think that it is Typhoo.

Because no cold milk is added it is usually hotter. I like it ☺
"I always leave the teabag in the box of teabags."

Very wise. You'd probably get a better drink if you tore the box up and made "tea" with that.
I have never timed it, but I would guess about 30 seconds to a minute.
There was an article a few months back, can't remember where, by a man who had made exhaustive tests and tastings. He concluded that the optimum time was 25 seconds, stirring only once, thus making sure you are not overloaded with tannin.
Bet he wasn't a Northerner, that's a cup of hot water to me.
Actually I have started making it like that and it's fine. Mind you, I only use Tetley's extra strong.

thx for all replies guess we all have our different preferences for our cuppa
It's each to their own taste isn't it?

As long as you enjoy it that's all that matters.

I do like a good leaf tea made in a teapot and served in fine china, but when you live alone you do lose the enthusiasm for the ritual somewhat.

i cant remember us ever having a teapot to be honest
I agree. I have two teapots which I never now use, no fine china because I'm common. If you only want one cup it seems an awful waste.
