I can think of one downside....that moment when the water container leaks all over the kitchen floor and into the electric guts of the machine. Now if there was something like garden gel crystals in the tank that absorbed the water and set it into a solid block that could not slop or leak, then I might go for it.

Maybe they could make the tank smaller which we could then fill with lead pellets or liquid mercury.

The answer is really simple .
Manufacture the machines with a a 'clip' type attachment that screws to the floor

ha ha I’ll say...illegal in soooo many ways also massively expensive....also the liquid mercury will need to be transported around so no difference from using concrete. The point of this idea is to keep the transport weight of the machine down by using a heavy substance that is found in the buyer’s house.

Why is there lots of talk about everything needing to be being greener. ?

It was considered that re-cycling plastic was a step in the right direction. However, my local Authority is No longer prepared to accept plastic bags for re-cycling or any plastic film and all hard plastic must be thoroughly washed. Never mind the the detergents involved with the washing process and the hot water which requires a considerable amount of Non green energy for it's production.

I know where you are going Hans. If I take my bottles to a bottle bank, I can dump them in unwashed, just with the lid/cork/top removed. If I put them out for collection, which the council prefer, they have to be rinsed. We are also asked to rinse plastic and tin that has contained food.

Washing machines these days are like something from outer space. I have a new LG one and if it gets a fault I can hold my mobile phone up to the smart diagnosis point and it tells me what is wrong with it.

Bring back twin tubs. Whites whiter than white...

Good exercise for those like myself who are reasonably active after having had a heart attack a few years back and have put on weight since the incident. I blame the tablets for my being somewhat overweight.

I loved my Twin Tub, could do a mixed wash by starting with whites and delicates, then start on the coloured fabrics and finish off with the grubby work wear.

I have a small drainer top mangle, but it's more a talking point than used, the little ones used to love washing dolls and teddies clothes and putting them through the mangle outside in summer.

I think you may find that it is a good idea.......20 years too late. Most modern washing machines now use electronic damping and drum stabilisation, certainly most integrated ones do. I am sure that most decent free standing machines are using electronic stabilisation and damping. All you have to do is remove the carriage bolts that hold the drum rigid during transportation before use.

The concrete block is located on springs to absorb some of the movement, any floor mounting would need to have some method of dampening.
