Went to one last night with family as it was grandsons 18th birthday. Food was ok. SIL paid the bill, we left, just getting to the car and staff from restaurant running up road shouting stop! They had given us the wrong bill!
Instead of £168 the actual bill was £228. SIL did the right thing and paid revised bill. But what would have happened if he had refused?

I guess the same as if you'd left without paying at all. Whatever that is.
It would depend on what policy the restaurant operates under such circumstances.
I would have refused to pay the increased price, on the grounds that 'you asked me to give you £168, which I did, and which you accepted. You cannot now ask for more money.'

SIL really thought it was our bill. He looked at it but all the food was in Thai but he recognised a lot of the drinks. We even had a discussion about the bill being a lot more than the Chinese we went to last week.
I really wouldn't have thought they could ask for more money once you had left the premises. Be interesting to know the definite answer to this.
