We, wife and youngest thoroughly enjoy them but eldest daughter wont touch them with a bargepole as her departed old granny always said the fruit looked like dead flies! Has put her off for ever!
Sainsbury are suggesting toasting them and filling them with a couple of slices of bacon, I quite fancy that, I like the sweet/savoury taste.
We always toast ours, fresh or stale. One year I bought some chocolate orange ones, toasted them and all the chocolate chips melted. Made a mess of the toaster.
They're ok...But I don't eat them because I avoid wheat...Cakes,bread etc.
But we get loads donated so we invented a pudding today...Toasted halves in a tray...Cover with caramelised peaches and the sugary, gooey syrup(pears would be good also),and custard...Serve warm.
I don't think I have ever had a hot cross bun. Had plenty of cold ones.
Oh and isn't it strange how different folk react differently to tastes. I think cinnamon tastes great (in appropriate quantities: I'm not taking any challenge).
