A show is an exhibition, and an exhibition is a kind of scholarship that will pay a student's fees etc

the very brightest students at Oxbridge used to get Scholarships ( worth around £80) and those that came second or after got Exhibitions ( worth around £40 a year) - when full grants were around £300/y
and there may be lower ones ( bursaries )

At st cakes college they may have funny names - demyship springs to mind ( duh - MY - ship ) or named after someone one - master's joyful scholar, St Crudz open scholar. You wore a funnier gown and the college fed you once a month or so ( college feast ) - it wasnt a bad life - no I wasnt one
