Two weeks ago we found a very young feral dove in the garden. It was all beak and was very scrawny and thin. It had fallen from the roof and was unable to fly back. It could only fly for about two feet before landing on the ground again.

We picked it up and put it in a pet carrier, gave it food and water and put it in to garage. Each day, we have taken it outside, opened the cage and watched what happened. Three days ago, it started to take itself back into the carrier and seemed perfectly happy to be there.

Today, we let it out, it wandered around a bit, went back in the carrier, came out and took off.........up onto the garage roof and five minutes later up onto the house roof! Hooray. No more worrying about the pigeon/dove.

Can't help it minty but I love meat and fish,at least I'm not ashamed to say I'm prepared to kill what I eat if I have too.
Tilly it's amazing how stuff gets into a pond. We've had a newt in our pond for a couple of years,no idea how we got it. Frogs courtesy of one my nieces little girls school project and depending on the weather more insect life then you can imagine and thats not counting the goldies and koi plus the birds that use the cascade for a shower.

Wow! That is an impressive dovecote. Are there doves in it, DTC?

Ponds are a haven for wildlife, Paddy. Every garden should have one! (Not if there are young children about, obviously)
You nursed it back to health Tilly, well done.
No, Tilly, I thought about it and had a free source (you have to cover the window with mesh for 3 weeks to get them conditioned to their new home, otherwise they fly back to their original roost). With the mater as she is, too much hassle.
here's one of the cotes inside.....

Thanks for that picture, DTC. Maybe, sometime in the future, the dovecote will be put to its proper use.

Well done Tilly !!
