Where do you start to look for a new sofa?
All the big players seem to have very mixed reviews and I really don't know where to begin.

M&S or John Lewis, although our latest sofas are from a local company who buy them from a manufacturer who supplies M&S.
If you have the time you can search around for good independents and quality suppliers but have to say I have bought several from DFS and have never really had a problem - their big advantage to me is you can walk round a big showroom, see them in room layouts and pick from a large choice.
Furniture Village have some decent brands
Try British Heart Foundation Charity Shop warehouse. If you have one near you. They have some great furniture, some new, some previously loved
I searched for about 6 months before finally making a visit to Sofology. Starting with what seemed like 100's of choices the salesperson (who isn't on commission!) we told her that we wanted a high backed, easy to get out of, leather 2 seater sofa which would cope with mastiff slobber. She came up with 2 which were perfect and it was difficult to make a choice between them. When we had made out choice I asked her if there were any 'returns' on the sofa I had chosen and she found us exactly what we wanted at half price brand new but it had been delivered and returned. What a difference between Sofology and DFS where there is high pressure to sell you anything. We've had it 6 months now and I'm delighted with it
