Education.
Same for me. And perhaps for Garaman too.
fiction-factory, I can't speak for Garaman but from my experience of conversations on the subject with you, I find your education on the subject somewhat lacking.
Not meaning to be awkward, Naomi, but I don't understand your question. I was just giving my view on the program, that as one who hasn't heard views on Islam discussed by too many Muslims it was more representative than I have seen previously. I have read many posts on here, but they are mainly from the same people and I am guessing that not many of them are Muslims.
Only naomi (and those on here that share her views and therefore by definition can match her deep experience of all things Muslim are sufficiently knowledgable to have a view worth considering, so she can dismiss any view that doesn't match hers with a patronising comment, Garaman
Garaman, thanks for getting back. Just wondered how, as a non-Muslim, you found it more representative than the threads on the subject in AB. By what criteria are you judging those threads and why do you find them non-representative?
fiction-factory, not at all. There are other people here who are well versed in the subject, but if you trip yourself up on a regular basis you can hardly hold me responsible for your failings.
Surely that title is a misnomer.I didn't watch this programme but by their way of life and beliefs they cannot be like "us" and its not right to try.
I didn't read the title like that , not as 'like us' - the non Muslim viewers.

Rather 'Like us' - the participants in the show.

Whatever the title meant I found them an interesting group of people.
//naomi// It was unrepresentative and hence, misleading. //

//I can't help wondering what you use a yardstick? //

I use the letters BBC.
An exercise in promoting community relations, Togo. ;o)
Back on the subject, that Abdul Haq should never have been released from Bellmarsh, what a horrible human being.

The other bloke I disliked was the black fat aggressive one, who wouldn't let anyone speak, in a discussion.

Otherwise, I thought it was interesting.
I saw the first one and it good. I will try to watch episode 2 on catch up.
As I have long believed, muslims born into the faith tend to be peaceful and nice. It is the converts from other faiths who are the problem and hardline. Many of the terrorist incidents we have seen involved converts.
//An exercise in promoting community relations, Togo. ;o) //

An exercise in social engineering Naomi. (^_*)
//It is the converts from other faiths who are the problem and hardline. Many of the terrorist incidents we have seen involved converts//

Message being.....don't let Muslims have an avenue to create "converts". Seemples.

Muslims I lived with in Malaysia & Turkey are peaceful, welcoming and non-threatening. They are worlds away from sub-continent and pakistani muslims.
