as someone once said, if you think you can, you can, and if you think you can´t you can´t, so its up to you. I´m 57 and have to look for work every year, which i do with very little difficulty.
I got head hunted at 60 so never give up. Be confident, sell yourself and all the years' experience you have under your belt. Join an agency and take temporary work which can lead to an offer of permanent work. Go girl and good luck:-)
You've not indicated what type of job you're looking for (or what your skills, qualifications or experience might be) but some employers are particularly noted for taking on older employees, with Asda and J D Wetherspoon possibly topping the list. B&Q, Sainsburys and Marks & Spencer also feature well in media articles about senior-friendly employers, as do several utility providers (notably Centrica and BT).
In any covering letter that you send with your CV do as I did, state I know that I may be older than your ideal but then go into what you can offer through your years and experience.
