Now, this is by nature a well-worn topic. Can anyone give me their own take on why everything *is*. . . I come from a Methodist Christian family and for them, everything is pretty much sewn up. Most of the people I know take a passive materialist/humanist/atheist stance. I am caught between the two, and as such i am angst-ridden and clenchy. anyone got any good ideas? my philosophy degree didn't help much either, but i put all my *faith* in the answer bank... don't let me down...

Ahhhh, yes!  We are here of our own accord.  We create our own reality.  We are our own "gods".  We "live to create" and it is of importance that we realize this.  We can create anything we want.  We have to KNOW this.  There is no hidden spiritual mystery as to why we are here.  We simply are because we experience all that we create.  We are creative creatures.  All comes from the mind/spirit/psyche first.  The universe did not spawn us...we created the universe.  Another very important thing to know is that physical reality is NOT the only reality.  We live infinite realities all at once.  All are valid.  It is a matter of focus which one we "think" we experience.  Much like changing channels on the tv.  We do not die.  Energy cannot die.  We simply change forms, channels.  It seems to us that our life here on earth is of utmost importance and that it is all there is.  But that is not true.  We are much, much more.  We are, in effect, ALL THAT IS.   Stand and be true, Patty

OK, OK...

As "meaningful" an answer as any!   Not incorrect, I might add.

The Meaning of Life is to have a Life with a meaning!
there is no meaning.
The meaning of life is to be happy in your own skin, overcome whatever problems you may face (They are there to test and strengthen us, but not to over power us), be kind to others, find peace within yourself - you are here for a reason, even if you cannot see it or dont know it! I don't particularily believe in any religion - I strive to make peace with myself and those who hurt me, to be happy and tranquil, without negatively affecting the happiness or potential happiness of others. I was put on this Earth by somebody for a reason, whether to do great things, or small un-noticeable things; or better someones in some way, shape or form. There have been many things in my life that have affected me/been done to me and due to personal and emotional problems, at times I have thought about ending it. Life is a privledge - and each and every one of us should strive to live it to the fullest, no comprises, and for the now.

The meaning of life is to create? Thats a very strong statement to make. It puts enormous pressure on peoples shoulders. Gay couples can't create life with each other, there are many ways in which they can make a family, but not together biologically. What about people who are infertile? Whether your beliefs be biological or Holy - there is a reason that people are made this way, and if the purpose of life is to only reproduce.. where do they fit in? Are they rejects to the Human Race? Life is for the living, so live it while you can, aslong as your not hurting anybody else, go out and have the best time/experience you can, with those that you love! Life is the good, the bad and the ugly. Experiences make us and shape us, the journey of life is the meaning of it.
Just want to say my previous posting was my view on the meaning of life, as a 17 year old - I didn't mean to try and define it for everyone else. At the same time, I just want to add that if anyone here is strongly connected to/believes in a Religion, then I didn't meant to diminish that due to my own beliefs. I think that following a Religion or some higher-power could benefit us as people, give us hope when we cannot find it within ourselves etc etc. OK, I talk a load of rubbish so I will shuttup now. Byeee!

thanks for your answer...4 months on seems a long time in AB terms; maybe not in terms of the question in question.

The meaning of life is to make the world a better place. Its trickier than you think what with work and all that sort of thing, but its the little things make all the difference
