I'm grazing on a bag of pistachio kernels from Waitrose. I've just noticed that, on the front, it says "6 servings".

Would one ever "serve" one sixth of a bag of nuts?

How do they determine that a "serving" of pistachios is 25g?

I think I've already eaten about three servings.

I can give you a serving of nuts
In truth JJ no one has decided a portion size, there are guidelines that's all.

As with most nations we are rubbish at portion control, but I'm as bad - open a pack of nuts/crisps and soon they're gone.

Mind you it's usually Randy's fault, not mine.
sharing bags..... who decided on sharing bags - its not on and i'm not sharing!
I am willing to share my nuts, lol
Be aware that nuts are fattening.
JJ, reading and worrying about what is written on a packet of nuts is a sure sign that you need to get out more.......

I do need to get out more, actually.
Missing America?
Never eat nuts at a social event.....double dipping yuk :-(
Without wishing to sound too boring.........

A portion of nuts is classed as what can be held in the palm of your loosely cupped hand, which amounts to roughly an ounce as per the packaging advice.

Naturally I ignore this and scoff away to my hearts delight!
Take no notice of product serving sizes. Sellers have an incentive to make you think your unit of product will do for much more than it actually does. For example, a can of soup or a frozen meal are both single portions not two. And we don't need to be fooled by nutrition information for only half the product.
Anyway, a portion of nuts, as everyone knows, has to be zero nuts.
OG that depends. When its something like cake or other junky type food, the seller has got a vested interest in presenting it as “healthier” than it is. So for instance the pack will show a slice of cake that is a sixth of the whole cake but if you read the nutritional info on the back of the pack, especially the calorie and sugar info you will find that they state that a portion is an eighth or even a tenth of the cake.
