Just watching Masterchef and a contestant is cooking a 'chicken dinner' apparently the only meal her Mother did well.

What would you serve as your signature dish?

chilli or lasagne
now if someone is cooking for me, a bloody good beef strog is a way to my heart.....
Venison slow cooked in ale with herby dumplings seems to go down well with my lot
Everybody round to maizie's. Sound good. With a big bottle of Red?
My Mum used to cook a ruddy marvelous Steak and Kidney Pudding, when we were boys. A proper Pudding mind you, not Pie, although that was nearly as nice. I can still taste that suet pudding crust !

She also made smashing Suet Puddings, with currants in, served with Golden Syrup and Custard....proper custard, not that horrid shop-bought stuff...about the only thing Rob Titchener and I agree about !

Where can you get S+K Pudding nowadays ?
You're welcome anytime Togo, just don't forget he wine :o) My Nana made amazing Steak and kidney puddings too Mickey and I've never been able to reproduce her amazing Yorkshire puddings
You could get a passable s&k pudding at a Lyons Corner House at one time but it is a species, it is on the red list today.
When I was very young, in the 50's, we used to stay with a great aunt of my Mums, in Exminster, on the edge of Dartmoor.

She used to serve marvelous roast beef, on a Sunday, accompanied by a Devon Apple cake. This was quite stodgy and served as a sort-of Devon equivalent of Yorkshire Pudding. There was always loads left over to have with custard, for afters !

I also have a dim recollection of a Potato and Onion pie, called, I think, by the name of Woolton Pie, which was very filling and very yummy !
On my way mazie. Though it does sound like the perfect cold, dark, wintry December supper. Get some logs on the fire.
Well, here in Fife, its been cold, dark and raining all week Togo :o( I think Spring is passing us by!

Here it is Mikey

Rarely do anything twice; variety is the spice of life, and I have way too many recipe books (plus the Internet). I regularly do a mean toasted bread and margarine for breakfast though.
