Anyone know of a taxi firm that charges less than £80.00 to pick up one passenger from Heathrow to take to Worthing, (about 6.00pm). Thanks.

I`d use coach - about £17.50

Yes, thanks. Trying to find out for an older friend and she said that it took 6 hours from Heathrow by bus to Worthing, and she just couldn't cope with that.
Thanks anyway.
The one I came up with was 3.5 hours unless she got a bad connection

Yes, I thought it sounded a lot so I looked up National Express and you're quite correct. I have passed this on to her, so in her hands now.
Even if she took a coach to Gatwick and then a train it would be a lot cheaper than a taxi.
But as I say, now up to her, but thanks for your help.
easiest journey from heathrow to worthing by public transport would be by bus X26 to east croydon, then train to worthing from there. bus fare is £1.50 using a contactless credit card; train fare dependent on time of day but an advance ticket purchased from southern railway can be as little as £5.00, and an off peak ticket is about £24.00.
I'm guessing you got the £80 figure from Wortax. Most of their rivals will charge much the same but you might save a few pounds with AirportCars:

or with Absolute (Anywhere):

National Express run coaches frequently from Heathrow to Gatwick, typically taking around 1h 20m. (£20 or £16 with a Senior Coachcard). There are direct train services from Gatwick Airport to Worthing, typically taking around 50m. (£13.30 or £8.80 with a Senior Railcard). That's the route I'd take!

As a guide, I arrived back to Heathrow from Switzerland last September at about 6.30 pm, midweek. Took a black cab to my home in Feltham (about 3 miles from Heathrow), the cost - £36 !!!!! Had no choice but to pay him. Don't think that £80 is too bad for the journey involved considering the driver has to make the return journey as well. Sorry !!

^^^ That's no great surprise, Fbg40.

I took a taxi from Brighton station to Kemp Town and, because of traffic congestion, there was over £10 on the meter before we'd even got out of the station car park - and that was 15 years ago!
fgb - never get a black cab from the airport for a local journey. Apart from anything else, the drivers get the hump because they have been in a queue for ages and when the eventually get a punter, they want to do a long journey, not a local one. Use someone like LHR cars at West Drayton. They always come along pretty quickly when you phone them.

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice. She is going to bite the bullet and pay the £80.00 but as her family are taking her to Heathrow on the outward part of the trip, she can tell herself that it's '£40.00 each way'.
