Hello,

I work in a school and am arranging travel for half term. One of my pupils is flying back into Terminal 2 with Swissair and will be taking the bus from the Central Bus Terminal. Hasn't flown into this terminal before and is a very nervous traveller. Following signs to the the Central bus terminal isn't enough.
Can anyone supply some very specific details, timings and distances we can give to her to get from arrivals to the Bus Terminal? Any help appreciated. Alternative is to get a taxi/chauffeur to meet her at arrivals with a board with her name on which costs over £150
Many thanks

Map 6 shows the T2 arrivals hall and from passport control walk straight across to W H Smith. There is a an information desk located next to it.
The bus station is across the road from T2. I presume she's travelling on the National Express. Any airport staff would give her directions but it's only about 5 mins walk away.
have you checked to see if there are any escort services available?

Come out of arrivals, follow signs for buses, press -1 in the lift, follow signs for buses along the travellator, go back up in the lift and walk into bus station. 5 mins. If going by National Express, look at the departure board until the bay that your bus is coming into, then leg it to the front of the appropriate queue to get the best seat on the bus.
Autistic? Been there, done that.
This is the best I can do from memory and the maps on links above:

You will be following signs to the Underground.

As you emerge from passport control and security into a corridor full of people, turn right, signposted to the Underground. There will be many people. They are concentrating on other things and may not make way for you. Walk for around 30m.

Turn left to emerge from the terminal building where it signposts "Exit" and "Underground"

You will emerge into a large open-air concourse. There are fewer people in this area, but the ones coming toward you will be in a rush and panic, because they are nervous about flying.
Cross to the opposite side of the concourse, where there are lifts and escalators. The distance is around 50m.

You are on Level 1

Do not take the escalator. Call a lift with the down button. When it arrives, enter the lift through the doors and select the option for underground.
If there is no option for the Underground, go down one floor to the Ground floor and exit the lift.

Look left and right for another lift within 10m. Check to see if it goes down to the Underground
Take that and go down one more floor to the Underground.

As you emerge from the lift, walk forwards, there is a long, brightly-lit corridor. Many people will be coming toward you with cases and trolleys. They will be more concerned about getting in to the lift than making way for you.

Try to keep to the left. After about 50m and passing through one set of doors, there are travelling walkways. The one on the right takes you toward the Underground station and the Bus station.

Walk onto the travelling walkway and get off at the end. This is about 100m long and will take a minute or two, and less if you choose to walk on the walkway.

When you energe, look for signs to the Central Bus station. It is on the opposite side from the main Underground station.

There is a lift that takes you up by one floor to the bus station.

When you emerge into the bus station area, walk towards the main bus station complex and ask for help about which bus to catch. There are multiple exits from the bus station.

Good luck!

If she has a smart phone, there are apps which have maps which you can follow. There will be dozens of staff around to ask.

Just to add to the above, this interactive map might be helpful:

Emerging from the travelling walkway, she will need to walk around 30m forward and the lift to the bus station is on the left hand side. Do not enter the Underground station on the right hand side.

And I confused left and right in the earlier post.

The last section should read as follows:

Try to keep to the left. After about 50m and passing through one set of doors, there are travelling walkways. The one on the left takes you toward the Underground station and the Bus station.

Walk onto the travelling walkway and get off at the end. This is about 100m long and will take a minute or two, and less if you choose to walk on the walkway.

When you emerge, walk for around 30m, looking for signs to the lift to the Central Bus station. It is on the left, opposite side from the main Underground station.

There is a lift that takes you up by one floor to the bus station. It has two entrances. one is designed for exiting the lift and the other is designed to enter the lift. Use the one that is slightly further away from the walkway - that is intended for entering the lift.

When you emerge into the bus station area, walk towards the main bus station complex and ask for help about which bus to catch. There are multiple exits from the bus station.
