AOG as I said ( look at my reply at 21.12 yesterday) the house can only be seized if the court can PROVE that the cash used to pay off the mortgage was from the proceeds of crime. I think this person was bright enough to make sure no proof was available, they probably gave money to relatives who then paid off the mortgage for them. The judge actually said '' I understand the money has been spent so there is nothing to repay''

Granted, you can't repossess a wedding ceremony but that is why it will have to be "goods to the value of".
It's not the Council Tax payers' fault that they paid over the odds for it, merely because they could… with their ill-gotten gains.

Oh and the guests and bystanders whom it did not occur to them to ask "how on earth can you afford all this; you only work at the council?" should think themselves lucky not to be collared for being accessories.

After serving 3 & 1/2 years for theft what are her chances of getting a job that pays enough to make repayments at a reasonable rate?
There was a similar case a few years back the person was ordered to pay back £1 a week from their benefits.
