read in the local rag, that the number 68 has magical powers that date back hundreds of millenia. it was on one of those fortune telling/astrology pages.

didnt quite understand how 68 became so strong in the number world, but the guy that wrote it claimed it was more than just a myth !

anyone else read it, and could they follow it ???

I didn't read it but the answer is no. No numbers have magical powers (except 42).
I think i might have read something similar funkeymoped but i could have sworn the number was 48. I will have to check it out. Maybe my mistake. I do think number 68 is lucky though, cause that was the year i was born! Lucky for me anyway!! how weird is that??? I will try and get hold of the article and let you know what I think, fascinating subject! JNO, why 42 for you?

jno, why does 42 have power ?

unruliejulie, that has got to be more than coincidence. of all the people in the q & a, you chose to read ths thread and you were born in 1868.. that would make you 137 !!!

Surely everyone knows why 42 is a powerful number..? ;-)

Issac Asimov wrote a wonderful article about numerology and the Bible. I saw it in a compillation called Opus1&2 many years ago - I was at school I think. Anyway, Asimov creates this wonderful scenario in which one can use pi and various other well known numbers to deduce things about the new testament. The pi bit, if I recall correctly, was pi=3.142 (if you round it up at that point) and this mirrored the supposed order in which the gospels were written (that may not be right, but it's something similar).

He then spent the second half of the article showing what a load of halfbaked rubbish the first half was and how you could prove anything you liked with numerology. It was very clever and very funny.

i thought pi only had one use, to calculate the circumferance of a circle. (guessed there were more !)

I thought 42 was a reference to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?

68 is a case of you do me and I'll owe you one...

Haggisdj ~ I thought that was a 34 1/2? *sniggers*
Are you sure that it wasn't 69 !!!
well spotted Haggisdj. That's the trouble with modern education, nobody recognises quotations from classical literature these days.

Ill make sure I pick 68 in my lottery numbers

68........is that give us a BJ and I'll owe u one?
funkey, i can't believe people are making a joke of what is a fairly serious question! You just can't get a sensible answer in News can you? Am i missing something with the number 69???????????? lol
Well Unruliejulie seeing as you already complained about jokes I don't know if I should tell this or not, ummm... tell you what, go on Google and search for 69 + position
oooooo im blushing ;-)
