My next door neighbour has just bought a cheap unlocked mobile phone to keep in her car in case of emergencies meaning it will get very little use so could anybody recommend a PAYG sim card where she can put say about £15 credit on it and it will remain on it without losing credit through lack of use as I know that some sims require you to top up credit on a regular basis

I'm not sure how long you can go without topping up but I've gone months without topping up my Tesco PAYG.

Thanks ummmm, I will tell her to ask in Tesco as it could be just what she needs.
And they triple your credit.
I think the days of PAYG credit expiring are long gone - except the 'bonus' credit that Tesco give.

If she does go to Tesco ask them to put her on the secret PAYG Lite tariff - a third of the cost of their main tariff.
I had a mobile SIM with Vodafone, purely for internet use away from home, used very infrequently. When I went to top it up I was told that, under new government regulations, unused SIMs expire after 3 months, the reason being the shortage of available numbers; destroying the SIM releases the number for others. I was given a new SIM free of charge but the message is: even if you have a phone for emergency use only (as I do) you may have to use it every 3 months or it may become useless (and you'll lose any credit on it).
as long as you make or receive a phone call every now and then it keeps the number alive. My hubby lost his credit through no use for 3 months I phoned up o2 and this is what we got told.
