Until Sunday I would never say I was a fan of Whisky. Went to the pub with a mate who's a fan of the drink.

I bought us a shot of The Ardmore and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had a lovely smoky flavor to it. Looks like its about 30 quid a bottle from supermarkets, might request a bottle of it for Fathers Day!

Can anyone else recommend a good quality single malt?

Old Pulteney (currently on a great deal in Morrisons). Smooth, mellow and delicious.
The taste of a single malt varies so much it is impossible to just recommend one as individual preference varies.
Booldawg if you have a chance try Penderyn Welsh single malt. Particularly Penderyn Myth. Beautiful stuff, just a splash of water with it. (if it is tap water let it stand for an hour in the fridge).

If you are a fan of the smokey malts try any of the Islays

I don't drink much in the way of spirits these days, but I used to love a drop of Laphroaig...they don't come much more smokey and peaty !

I'm pretty sure that was the brand I treated myself to once when I was rather down; only to find when I got back fro the Offie and tried it, that I didn't like it at all. I know I like some brands. I could do with going to a whiskey tasting evening with a notebook.
Lol Geezer we all do :-)
Yes OG.....I could do with that as well !
Laphroaig, just gorgeous!

lol, will get round to all these recommendations one day!

Will make a list!
I used to enjoy the odd glass of whiskey until Mrs retro bought me back a bottle of Talisker from the distillery on the Isle of Skye. That has really put me off Scotch for life.I thought I was drinking the peat bog itself.Yuck.
I first sampled Penderyn Red Dragon on my honeymoon in Tenby back in 1976.
A fantastic whiskey. Very smooth. It was introduced to our Wetherspoons for about a year but sadly taken off the shelf now.
I will only drink Irish now. I think that is triple filtered and accounts for its smoothness.

I don't drink Whisky nowadays, not since I made the connection between drinking it and having a scrap or three, decided it wasn't good for my health.

How does everyone drink it? I like a few chunks of ice, but some use water?
Soda water and only ice on hot days.If on the rare occasion it is a hot day in the UK I drink a pinkers ( G&T)with ice.
Lol Baldric, been there. I rarely imbibe it out these days. I have a tipple at home though. No amount of the finest whisky could persuade me that a scrap with my little Welsh spitfire was a good idea.
Just a splash of cold spring water or chilled tap water for me Booldawg, or I sneak a drop into a mug of tea if I have been out in the cold.
I like to have my whisky with a whisky chaser.
I used to love Irish whiskey with lemonade. Can't drink Scotch at all.
never ever ice, with a drop of water perhaps depending on the malt.

Like you I can no longer drink Scotch. It "scunners" me . I think Bourbon is filtered once, Scotch twice and Irish 3 times if memory from the Jameson's tour serves me correctly.
