No closed for ever, it will be turned into housing I guess.

Big bit of land and Birmingham is now a better bet for the HMRC who are keen on upgrading security by moving towards a lessser number of bigger regional airports.
I heard from a source (unable to mention due to legal reasons) that it will reopen.
whilst its passenger operation is gone (probably permanently), Coventry remains a thriving cargo operation served by 3 air carriers and 3 logistics companies. so it is unlikely to be built on.
December just gone?

I thought Thomson had stopped all their flights before then...
Thomsonfly withdrew the only scheduled passenger services from Coventry airport in November 2008. That, together with the Government's rejection of plans for a new terminal at the airport (and the subsequent failure of a High Court appeal) caused the financial collapse of the company running the airport. The chances of it re-opening are extremely slim. (Birmingham Airport can handle all of the traffic for the area, and has much better facilities, so there's little incentive for anyone to attempt to run passenger operations from Coventry).
