How can I stop a butane gas hob burning with a sooty flame, as it leaves the saucepans coated with an oily sooty deposit?

I would get it checked by a qualified gas engineer (CORGI) since it will be producing poisonous carbon monoxide as well.

yeah, the sooty flame shows incomplete combustion. Other products are CO.

Do NOT use in a closed environment!

(or give it to someone you dont like! hur hur hur)
