Hello

Im getting married in Turkey this September and were not told when booked that we would need injections. I recall having them 10 years ago and having seen the nurse yesterday she said they are needed. However which such a big party of us it seems we have all had conflicting advice. Also there are alot of young children. Can someone confirm exactly what is needed. Many thanks.

You don't 'need' any from the point of view of being allowed into Turkey and back home.

If you are going to a tourist resort which I assume you are you won't need any injections.

As long as neither of you are Turksih then you won't need any blood tests either.

You may have to depending where you have them done. I know most used to be free but I think a friend told me she had to pay. Check with your GP as they may do them but if you go to a clinic I doubt it will be free.

Really CrazyCathy, we have been told that we defo need blood test when we get there. We have a lovely 8 hour round trip to sort docs etc and have to pay over 600 quid for it!

Olu Deniz in September. I dont think i need them all as i went to dominican 3 years ago, just mainly concerned about my little one who will be 18 months.

I was under the impression that unless one of you was a Turkish national you didn't need the blood tests.

A couple of friends of ours got married in Fethiye last year and didn't have the blood tests but knowing Turkey things change. It is like if either party is divorced you have to wait so many days from the divorce date before you can marry some areas will waiver this some won't.

The only way to be sure is to contact the Turkish/ British Consulate.

I will check with a neighbour who is Turkish when he comes home from work as his wife doesn't speak english or if NannyJill comes on here she'll know she has dual turksih/british nationality and is usually pretty up to date with procedures.

Oh thank you, Im a real wimp so would be great if we didnt have to but its expected! Its a 1st time marriage for us both so no worries there (and hopefully last)!

im taking 2 children, a 3 and 1 year old and we've not been told we need any vaccinations other than to be up to date with those we have here.

Hes just had his 13 mth jabs so will be up to date. The nurse said there was one jab that he probably cant have as you must be well past 18 mths, cant remember which one though. I suppose if they recommend its better to be safe than sorry.

Hi Roomster

Have spoken to neighbour who said officially blood tests are required but they can be waivered and quite often are. It does depend on the area and he doesn't really know about Olu Deniz.

Nanny asked if you had booked this as a wedding package as often the operators will come up with a deal with a private clinic for blood tests and get a commission for sending people there. I assumed that as you said you have a round 8 hour trip to sort the documents out you were doing it yourselves?Again she said that lots of foreign nationals marrying do not have blood tests but if you have to have one advised going to the State Hospital (as the guidelines suggest but use a private clinic) sometimes when you take the marriage documents to be registered they will tell you where to go.

I'm guessing maybe your little one won't have Hep A as Nanny said her grandson who's nearly 2 hasn't been vacinated against it and he;s back and forward to Turkey 4 to 6 times a year. he's only had the injections here.

Where did you get all your info about cost of docs etc from? Nanny suggested you can check the Turkish consulate's website or uptodate info or you can ring or email them -

On a lighter side only people who have a sufficient mental capacity to make fair judgments are allowed to marry. She did say that if either of you suffer from epilepsy you should not disclose it as Turkish law forbids people with this condition to marry.

Thank you so much for your answer crazycathy. Yes we do have a wedding package with thomas cook which is paid for and we have been told we have to pay approx �600 local fees when we ge there which covers the taxifor the day to do papers and blood test etc. Perhaps its the Hep a that babies cant have until they are well over 18 months, if so i wont be getting that one but will follow doctors advice on the others. I will also check to see about the blood tests.

Luckily neither of us are mental so we should be fine!! Thanks again
