Depends on your nationality. Americans (and possibly Canadians) don't; assume that all others do.
You certainly do if you are coming the other way, ie Mexico to the USA, as everyone is searched full and questioned. If going by land, from the USA to Mexico, the customes only pick a random selection (by a traffic light system) of people to check.
