I know I should be posting a reply instead of asking another question. But I'm too very interested in going thailand now. Do you think bird flu will affect tourists in any significant way?

If its your first time (and especially if you haven't been to a 3rd world country before) I'd recommend taking a package. Then all travel hassles are sorted; if you like the country do it yourself later. Packages from Kuoni are good value.

When you arrive after your 13hr flight at Bangkok airport, its so hot & humid its hard to breathe, its good to be met by someone who'll deal with your bags adn transport you to a hotel without you having to do anything.

don't do a package. you'll only see the bits they want you to. i'm going to thailand for the first time in october. you'll experience the real thailand if you do it yorself.
i went to india flight only last year loved it i am going to thialand next year flight only it is more of an adventure by the lonely planet guild book and you cannot go wrong
