Has anyone been to Sharm el Sheikh recently. I have heard a lot of people get food poisoning and upset stomachs. It looks really great in the brochure but don't fancy getting sick on holiday.

i have been and had a fantastic time. was there with 3 other friends and we were all fine. Often people get unwell on holiday because they can be for example greedy(i know that sounds harsh) but you are there trying loads of different things, eating at times you dont normally, drinking more than you do during day to day life and getting dehydrated due to this and the heat. I would recommend you try to be sensible and in particular ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day. To be honest a few of my other friend have been and were all fine. I think I am really trying to say people get sick on holiday and automatically assume food poisoning when could just be upset stomach. You must try the camel bar in Nama bay - great bar and also Indian Restaurant under the stars (of course this may not help if you are prone to funny tummy!)
i agree with joanne, everyone blames the food but i think its dehydration due to the hot weather.i went and loved it,my advice would be drink plenty of water,DON'T put the air con on straight after coming in from sunbathing and avoid the salad bar! but if you do get the brad pitts the pharmasy will sort you out within a day. have a great time.x
Been about ten times now, been a bit dicky once (simply remedied).

In my experience it is quite simple, If you spend all day lying on deck in 40C, 3 dives down (major dehydration), and then neck ten pints in Camel until 2, followed by Pasha. You will feel unwell!

In the hotter months try and drink 3 litre of water a day. It is not hard. Keep re-hydrated and you will be fine.
I was there three/four years ago for a week and whilst I did get a dodgy tummy right at the end, I think that was booze related rather than food

There is a wide variety of foods available from western (american) to Far east, Egyptian etc and no one else in my party (8) experienced any up set and thats why I firmly believe mine was after a heavy booze night

Great place would go back again without a shadow od a doubt
Here are a few tips to stay healthy. Don't eat any puddings as they tend to sit around and attract flies. If you eat from buffets take food from the bottom where it's hottest and never ever drink fruit juice as it may have been diluted with local water. I've been fine following those guidelines but I've known others who've suffered from not.
It's not just the food and water. In poorer countries you have to ensure that you keep clean, wash your hands a lot and make sure your kids (if you have any) do too.

People in Western Europe forget how crowded, dusty, hot and dirty other countries can be. There isn't the same attention to hygiene and even in the clean areas such as resorts the heat makes for a perfect germ nursery.

You can buy disinfectant gels in travel sizes from Boots and Superdrug as well as little aerosol disinfectant cans which are perect for trips out to see the sights.

Regarding Sharm el Sheikh specifically my neighbours went for two weeks with no problems at all. I went to Luxor, again without any problems. Just be careful.

Have a great trip.
been there had a great time no probs as long as you are in a good hotel and know your limits do not over do it on the booze thats the problem there spirits are completly diffrent from ours but having said that would go again at the drop of a hat
Went twice last year, no problems. My advice, take anit-bacterial hand gel. Its great, no water needed, just keep rubbing it in your hands especially after touching egyption money as its filthy. Keeps all the germs at bay. A small 100ml bottle is only about 99p. Well worth it. Have a great holiday.
