i need avisa to go to america can i apply for a ten year one or can you only get a one year one if it is only for a holiday

You'll get what they give you - it makes no difference to the cost and I don't think the application form asks how long you want it for.

They will base it on your travel plans and your 'profile'
I thought a Visa was permanent unless you do something to have it revoked. Probably I was wrong
I applied for a visa and they have given me a five year one. I didn't apply for that one in particular though. As dzug says, you'll get what they give you!
You'll know if they don't like you but can't think of a reason for turning you down - you'll get a visa that expires before you are due back from holiday!!!!
