Has anyone recently been to Tenerife? We are due to go there soon but have heard that a lot of places do not accept cash! We would appreciate any information on the subject.

It is true - use a debit or credit card.
Here on the mainland there is no problem. But take your cards just in case. It's the first I have heard of it.
You can get pre loaded travel cards from exchange shops, loaded with Euros, so your bank doesn't sting you with your cards.
I've always used cash ...... I only have a card for emergency.
Use the right cards and you aren't stung by the bank - I have always got a better exchange rate using cards than buying euros
