Pleased that the caring UK have now nursed this boy back to full health, but after all he is still an illegal immigrant, and as such should he now be deported back to Vietnam?

Amazing, what a lovely letter to those who saved him.
Aren't 16 year olds considered minors in the UK?
He is minor, and it would appear that he has been granted permission to remain here.Deportation not necessary.
Does anyone know the details of how he got here? It's hard to believe he made the whole journey in a suitcase. Was there an excess baggage charge? Surely you couldn't survive the handling a suitcase gets, the lack of air, the cold and pressure in the cabin- and what about security checks on the contents?

/// The boy's family have been bringing us food and drinks. ///

So it would appear that he already has a family here, if this is so, then why is he being fostered?
FF, from the link:-
//The driver of the car, who was caught at Dover port (pictured) was jailed for 18 months for people smuggling//
The foster parent said "They are so important in a search like this. The boy's family have been bringing us food and drinks." Does this mean that the boy's family is already in the UK? If that is the case, why is he with foster-parents? If the parents are here are they here legally? It's a really, really strange situation.
Maybe they mean his foster family. But if you include the previous sentence too maybe the story contains some erroneous text from another story- "'They are so important in a search like this. The boy's family have been bringing us food and drinks." What search?

Do we give the same special treatment to all our criminal minors?
It doesn't mean his foster family, it quite clearly says 'the boy's family'. I also find it strange he hasn't been placed withhis family.
He should be in order to deter others, and because he didn't have permission to come in the first place. I can see why folk think compassion after his ordeal is in order, but it is a risky course of action to allow now, since it shows folk, or at least minors, are allowed to stay if they sneak in and suffer. Feel good like you're doing the good thing now, cope with a larger problem in the future.
AOG. As ourcriminal minors already live here they do not require special treatment.
Thanks danny. I know about the smuggler- but it says "Smuggled Into The Uk From Vietnam Inside A Suitcase.". He can't have done all the journey in a suitcase or in a car.

I think you will find that FF was referring to the air trip from Vietnam, unless you are suggesting that the smuggler brought him all the way from Vietnam in his car?
FF, He could have done it by land and sea.
AOG //I think you will find that FF was referring to the air trip from Vietnam, //
Where in the link does it mention any air trip?
maybe we can swap him with a VBQC on a one in one out basis? eg we send a lib non dem to vietnam in return.
The person who smuggled him into the country was convicted of a crime and imprisoned for it. I would think that the person or persons who wanted to be smuggled in are also guilty of the same crime.

Are you suggesting that Foreigners get to receive special treatment, which is not given out to our own?
