Luther Strange *was* Trump's favoured candidate, so I think you have it the wrong way round.
I had considered posting about it but from a slightly different angle. Apparently Luther Strange was also the preferred candidate of the Republican leadership in general. The winner is someone who's reputedly more like Trump than the man Trump backed, so who knows what it means?
At any rate, it's a fairly minor event in the grand scheme of things. I'm rather more pleased by the failure, again, to push through a badly-designed ACA "Repeal and Replace" Healthcare Bill.
