Where is a good place to go abroad for us three ladies (mid forties)? nice hotel or apartment, shortish flight, for 4-5 nights, nice local bars and restaurants (within walking distance) not full of 18-30 year olds and rowdy people? Thanks

would a city like Barcelona or even Paris suit? Or are you thinking more of a resort/beach break?

Salou, Las Vegas hotel, or something similar. Nice boat trip to Cambrils, train or taxi to Tarragona or bus tours elsewhere. Short flight into Reus airport, less hustle and bustle and short transfer time.
Roquetas De Mar in Almeria fits that bill exactly, plenty of hotels and restuarants.

thanks guys for the suggestions Ill take a peak !!
jersey?
Kenya, definitely. I've been there with my friends and I think its awesome for a lady in her mid forties. The situation with hotels may vary from destination to destination though (http://www.askwiki.net/How-to-Find-a-Good-Kenya-Hotel - check this one to get an idea of hotels in Kenya). Just beware of attracting young men trying to make money out of you. You can also try Greece, it's much more civilized and simply gorgeous.
What time of year are you thinking of going as you say you would like a beach.

mid june xxx
can't offer specific advice but there are quieter coastal resorts on the Atlantic coast of France, in the Balearics and so on not frequented by clubbers.
Mid June Mallorca is very nice not too hot mid 20s and not packed. Puerto De Soller is nice and so are some of the places that may be too busy in July and August such as Santa Ponsa and Palmanova. Plenty of bars to visit, nice beaches and SP and PN are good places if you want to visit Palma or other places for a day out as there are plenty of buses. Mallorca is only 2 hours or so from UK and the places I mentioned are less than an hour from the airport in Palma.
