I'm taking my two sons (aged 14 and 11) to the island of Jersey for two weeks in August.  Does anyone know of any good places to go while there?  Any good pub/restaurants?  And which are the best beaches?  I'm sure there are loads of  interesting places, but if I have a couple to aim for specifically, I can work it from there.   Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks spudqueen, but I was looking more for personal recommendations.

I've never been to Jersey before, but have been to Guernsey a few times and would recommend a day trip to Sark, it is a little island you can get the ferry to.  THere are no cars so you can walk around but if you are up for it - best bet is to rent bikes and ride around the island, there are some stunning views, lovely beaches, cute cottages, nice little village shops etcetera.  THe island of Herm is similar only somewhat smaller and owned by one couple - there are various accomodation optiosn but again you can just go for the day.  Again, stunning, and my top tip for Herm is to visit Shell Beach, a lovely place with millions of little round shells of all colours - I still have a box full of ones I collected when I was a little girl!  There is also a nice beach cafe and it doesn't get too crowded even in the height of summer.

If you don't mind cycling, walking and pottering around beaches then I would recommend a day at each island, since you are going for two weeks.  Otherwise you can combine them into one day I think with the ferry routes.

Another attraction which is good fun is the German Underground Military Hospital on Jersey.  (I have only been to the one on Guernsey which is much less commercialized, but other than that I believe they are pretty similar).

You have made me really jealous - well done! You'll have a lovely time.

The best beach, especially with a couple of youngsters, is St Ouens on the West coast where they can discover the joys of surfing or boogie-boarding. Or St Brelades beach cos theres plenty of bars and cafes.

A visit to Living Legend and the Zoo is a must plus the new waterfront area in St Helier with assorted bars and restaurants (well KFC and Chicago Rock at least) as well as the indoor pool complex.

Loads of decent bars all over the island. If youre staying in St Helier, once the kids are in bed get yourself off to Chambers. Huge place popular with locals, local band every night and open until 1am.

Enjoy!

Thanks morg monster and sweggie.  Enjoyed reading your suggestions.  I checked on the web about trips to other islands, but it's not as easy as getting there from Guernsey, so although they sound great I'll have to miss them this time.  One day though!

Sweggie, your suggestions are duly taken on board.  I'll definitely check out the areas you mention.  I'm having a look what Living Legend is on the net.  It sounds intriguing.  My kids would love boogie boarding too.  Thanks both for your extremely helpful ideas.

Oh i forgot. If you are in Jersey for 2 weeks you could easily do a day trip to the island of Sark. your hotel reception will be able to do that for you but make sure you book to include bicycles. If the sun is shining its a lovely day out.
