....is it such a big deal when you consider what's rumoured to be served as meat in certain takeaways?

I ate in a balti restaurant in Birmingham once.

The menu specified that the dishes contained 'meat', but didn't venture any further than that.
Balti houses always use the word meat Hopkirk- it means mutton on a Balti House menu.

It's only a big deal because it wasn't labelled as what it was Joeluke- so Jews and Muslims have been eating pork as well as horse meat. If things are labelled then people can choose, this took that choice away. Other than that it doesn't particularly bother me what sort of meat it is.
my wife asked me if i wanted anything on my burgers at tea time i said just
a tenner each way
I got worried and went and looked at the Tesco burgers in my fridge

... and they're off!
Brilliant sportsnut! LOL
and jno :))
Many years ago when I lived in Swindon, police raided a Chinese Restaurant (or was it Indian, can't remember) and found several Alsatian carcases in the freezer.
‘An anagram of “hamburgers” is “Shergar Bum”.’

‘Tesco, everything you want from a store and a little bit mare.’

I selected some burgers on the Tesco website… I then clicked on “add to cart”.’

‘You think Tesco Horse Burgers are bad, you should try their Quarter Pandas.’

The government have told Tesco they have to label what additives they have in their Value Beef Burgers. It reads “Contains horse but guaranteed Shergar free”.’

I hear that they are putting uniQuorn in the veggie burgers too.’

I’ve found it tough lately working on the Tesco meat counter. I feel like I’m flogging a dead horse.

Making jokes about horse burgers didn’t seem to be beneath well-known figures such as former deputy prime minister John Prescott, who tweeted: ‘I see the Tesco horse burger is the mane news item on Twitter.’
