Jogging...

I've just started jogging 4 - 5 times per week (about 10 mins at a time) I have two questions...firstly, when will I start seeing a difference of the appearance of my legs/bum. Secondly how do I carry a Discman? Can you buy special bags/belts?

Jogging is an aerobic exercise, very little possibility for muscle development. 10 minutes is not enough to even get cardio improvement. If you want to firm up bum and legs you need resistance training. To improve cardio fitness you need to raise heart rate to 80% of max for at least 12 minutes (jog/cycle/xtrain/step/swim) max heart rate = 220 - age.
I've never had a discman, but i don't think they're very good for jogging, wouldn't the CD skip?  I've seen people just carrying them in their hands, having a belt might restrict your movements a bit.

if you've got no muscle to lose, and can only do a 10 minute session, which unless you have medical reasons, really isn't enough, then do it in the morning, and get up early.

the lack of glycogen in your body will cause the body to metabolise fat, and you'll feel knackered throughout your run, however, 30 minutes later going to work, you'll be wide awake.

 

In terms of a difference in appearance, you probably wont.

The best way is to take a full or top body shot once a fortnight, and compare at regualr intervals.

How about a MP3 player? They are not that expensive anymore, most of them comes with a belt/armband, and they are small. Works for me anyway :0)

Thanks for answers...surely Loosehead I will lose weight if I build up my jogs to 15 - 20 mins though? (that's about 1 mile) and get a little toned? (I have cut my calories, and I am 26 yrs old)
Losing weight depends on the number of calories burned compared to the number of calories ingested if the former is greater than the latter then you will lose weight if not then you will gain weight. Now there are many factors that determine how many calories are used metabolic rate exercise etc etc. Yes jogging is helpful for losing weight but directly uses about 6-10 calories per minute so to lose a pound of fat you need do burn about 3500 calories, do the arithmetic, that's alot of jogging. The real benefit is in raising your heart rate and hence metabolism and burning more calories in the period after. Any exercise is better than none 20 mins jogging 3 times a week is more than most so well done.

Thanks...wish me luck!
I should have gone for a run tonight but am tired, a little lazy and have a sore ankle. If at all possible run on grass or anything that's a softer surface than the pavement.
For music, I'd recommend getting a radio or mp3 player.
Not necessarily an iPod but you can get a 512MB one really cheaply and can very easily swap the songs on it so that you're not always listening to the same stuff.
