We are off to see the tall ships at Gloucester tomorrow. Anyone else ever been - what's the parking like (as Gloucester is poor for parking at the best of times). Thanks.

The website makes reference to designated event car parks, so you might be OK:

I'm thinking of going to the family day at Notting Hill Carnival tomorrow but I've just discovered that my normal 2 trains into Liverpool Street have been replaced by Bus>Train>Bus>Tube and I can't even get to Liverpool Street before half past one!

However I've also worked out that I can go the long way round (via Cambridge) with a bus and two trains, getting into London a full two hours earlier, so I might still go. (I'll have to see what time I wake up tomorrow!)

It's raining here so we might have to have a rethink too - although we are supposed to be getting some school shoes at the outlet place (which also has a Cadbury shop) so we will see how it goes. (Have to park where boy #2 can't see Toys R Us.)
Say hello to my son on the Navy recruitment truck at Gloucester, he's a long way from home.

Never fancied the carnival, even when we lived nearer. It's the crowds, all squished in together. We were in Cadiz (on a school trip) when they were having a carnival (of sorts) and it was so claustrophobic, wouldn't feel happy taking the little people somewhere like that.

Hi potiche, will do! (At least he's not somewhere dangerous - well, I don't think Gloucester is dangerous.)
Gloucester is excellent for parking really. And cheap on Sundays. There is a large car park actually at the docks, and there is the new one on the new bypass. Plus multi-stories in town. And the park and ride...
Anyway, you can doubtless see all that on the website ...
Lol. We saw them at Greenock and the organisation / crowd management was amazing. It was totally Park & ride or £15 to park in adjacent forecourts & office car parks. So, don't be surprised if you are marshalled & organised. Hope you all enjoy.

Hi ichkeria - we must be looking in the wrong places! On the couple of occassions we have been there we have had trouble parking. (I have trouble parking in an empty car park!)
The weather forecast for Gloucester is for early morning showers, but dry from mid-morning onwards, with some sunny spells in the afternoon:

hi Sherra, I'm going to - hope its better than the recent Bristol one.
"Hi ichkeria - we must be looking in the wrong places! On the couple of occassions we have been there we have had trouble parking. (I have trouble parking in an empty car park!) "

Hare Lane is where we go - (tho I wouldn't advise it tomorrow). For some reason (probably because it's easy to miss) it is never full despite being small and near the town centre (and the rugby ground).
And of course there's the new Quays multi storey car park right next to the docks also, which 'd forgotten about!

Thanks Buenchico - rain coats already in the boot of the car!

Hi Mark01 - look out for us, we are easy to spot, four dark-haired kids (like steps) and one blonde demon!

Hi Ichkeria - our car is big, and I can't park a little car! When my husband is driving we find more 'convenient' places than when I am on my own! (Wouldn't do a multi-storey car park in a mini.)
Question Author
Actually, thinking about it, I probably couldn't get to Gloucester on my own anyway! (No sense of direction.)
I hope you came to see the Tall Ships, it was a great day out, only one small shower all day.
If you do decide to come to Gloucester in the future park and ride is the best way to do it although there really are loads of car parks.
Sorry to be so negative here, but have heard that this city has the highest bus fares in the country, so may consider parking and walking. Not sure if this city has got Park and Ride, but any decent city should have. Sorry I can not be of more help.

Hi Masma and JonnyBoy - parked with ease and didn't have to walk too far to the quays. The three eldest enjoyed it but I felt a bit sorry for the twins as they were being walked into and bumped about by grown ups who obviously don't think that toddlers should be shown any manners (too heavy and too independent to be carried now). Plus side - got three pairs of school shoes (two at the Hush Puppy outlet) and got some cheap(ish) chocolate at the Cadbury shop.
