OH and I want a weekend away but cant decide where. Not far from Surrey. On the coast where there is plenty to do daytime and evening (quaint shops, good pubs, restaurants). Either Hampshire or Sussex. And a good B&B as well !! We would like to walk out in daytime and evening and leave car at B&B. I don't mean walk as in hike though. Thought of Lymington, Milford on Sea, Mudeford (are these too quiet ????) Chichester (where do we stay?), Rottingdean (again where do we stay?), but can't find a decent place to stay (looked on tripadvisor) as well as plenty of things to do. Dont have children and middle aged so waiting for some good answers !

Lymington is quaint. Keep clicking 'Next picture' here, to get a feel for the place:

TripAdvisor lists plenty of decent B&Bs there:

. . . together with some good bars and restaurants:

From Lymington, you could easily visit the Isle of Wight:

Milford is lovely for walking during the day but is quiet at night, as is Mudeford. However neither are that far from Bournemouth and there are good buses and trains from Bournemouth to either place. Bournemouth has loads of restaurants for the evening and loads of reasonable hotels.
Rye is lovely but the B and B's are now mostly boutique hotels but a good base to do that part of the coast.. and a few good if somewhat quaint pubs/restaurants
Isle of Wight would fit the bill - Lots of quaint shops - Thatched cottages - plenty of walks and there are lots of pubs & eating places. And wherever you stay you aren't too far from the sea. We love it and have weekends there when ever we get the chance.
